Challenge:

Extremely short outage time allowed to install Recovery Boiler Dry Bottom ESP.

SEI’s Solution:

Southern Environmental’s solution was to erect the new ESP prior to the outage, then during the extremely short outage period all that was required was to roll in the completed ESP and perform final tie-in. Complete equipment included drag scraper, gathering and transfer conveyors. SEI also engineered and supplied the black liquor mix tank with piping.

Project Duration:

Unit No. 1

  • PO Received - 01/94

  • Roll-in of New Unit - 11/94

  • Start up - 12/94

Unit No. 2

  • PO Received - 06/96

  • Roll in or New Unit - 10/96

  • Start up - 10/96

Detailed Engineering in the following disciplines:

  • Structural

  • Mechanical

  • Electrical

Fabrication and Construction Services:

  • ESP Fabrication

  • Field Technical Support

  • Field Installation

Scope of Work:

Southern Environmental provided turnkey services for a new recovery boiler precipitator to replace the existing unit. The new unit was erected at grade near the existing unit while it remained in operation. This minimized the downtime of the unit. The existing unit was demolished after completion of the new unit. The new unit was elevated on hydraulic rollers and rolled into place after the demolition was complete. All new inlet ductwork from the boiler outlet to the precipitator was supplied. All engineering, management, design, fabrication, construction, material and start up were supplied by Southern Environmental.

Performance Guarantee:

With the boiler operated as specified, the ESP will perform well below all of the specified collection efficiencies, as well as the specified outlet residuals as follows:

  • 99.8% Efficiency at < 10% opacity

  • Inlet gas flow: 215,800 ACFM

  • Inlet loading: 8.0 gr/dscf

  • Inlet Gas temperature: 430° F

  • Outlet Loading: 0.02 gr/dscf

  • Black Liquor Firing Rate: 259,000 lbs/hr

  • Black Liquor Solids: 75%

  • Inlet Moisture: 25%
